There are reports of two explosions near the finish line of the Boston Marathon near Boylston Street. The Boston Marathon headquarters are locked down, a spokesman says. There is no indication as to what caused the explosions.

UPDATE, 5:27p ET: The incident at the JFK Library in Dorchester appears to be related to a fire.

UPDATE, 5:17p ET: Cell phone service has been shut down in the Boston area to prevent remote detonations of explosions.
UPDATE, 5:15P ET: A source tells Fox News that authorities in Boston are guarding a “person of interest” who is currently in a hospital. The person has severe burns. Source says though that authorities have yet to determine whether he was a victim or a perpetrator.
UPDATE, 5:02p ET: Vice President Joe Biden was speaking on a conference call about gun control that was previously scheduled when he saw television reports of the Boston Marathon explosions. Audio of the call was released, in which the vice president used the word “bombing” to describe the event. Listen to the call here.

The explosions on Boylston Street near the finish line of the Boston Marathon occurred at 2:50p ET, about 50-100 yards apart. Each blast caused multiple casualties. All victims have been removed from the scene. People in Boston should stay in indoors and not congregate in large groups while police continue to investigate. There was a third explosion at the JFK Library and police right now are treating it as a related incident.
The next briefing is scheduled for 7p ET.

UPDATE, 4:46p ET: Boston police just confirmed another explosion at the JFK Library in Dorchester. More information on that explosion is not yet known.
The following statement is just out from the FAA:
“The FAA has placed a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the site of the explosion in Boston at the request of law enforcement. The TFR is three nautical miles from the site and extends from the surface to 3,000 feet. It allows commercial air traffic operations to continue.”

UPDATE, 4:08p ET: During live coverage on Studio B, Shepard Smith said that a doctor from Massachusetts General Hospital, where explosion victims were being rushed, told a Fox News source that 10 patients with amputations and blown off limbs are currently in the emergency room at Mass. General Hospital. More patients are en route.
UPDATE, 4:06p ET: The Boston Marathon posted this statement on their Facebook page moments ago:
“There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today’s Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened.”
UPDATE, 3:55p ET: Fox affiliate reporter Maria Stephanos gave an eyewitness account of the explosion on air on Tuesday afternoon.
We’ve also learned that President Obama has been notified of the incident. A White House spokesperson said, “His administration is in contact with state and local authorities. He directed his administration to provide whatever assistance is necessary in the investigation in response.”
UPDATE, 3:50p ET: Fox News anchor Shepard Smith, in reading eyewitness accounts, said it appeared preliminarily as though a device was rigged with shotgun pellets, so that when the explosion took place it would ‘create terror.’
UPDATE, 3:42p ET: The New York Police Department has stepped up security around landmarks in Manhattan, including near prominent hotels, according to NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne.
UPDATE, 3:39p ET: Shepard Smith reports that police are checking to see if any devices may have been placed in barrels or garbage cans near race path. Reports out of Boston suggest that there’s more than one location for these explosions.
